What is Bannock?

Bannock is a traditional staple in many of turtle islands indigenous communities, it also goes by a couple different names like Fry Bread or Bangs

Bannock was brought to turtle island by Scottish fur traders, the metis people brought the bannock back to their communities while they wintered with their mothers families. From there it quickly became a staple!

After trying this mix it just might become a staple in your home too!

What is turtle island?

Turtle Island refers to the traditional creation story of North America, it symbolizes the earth and life.

If you look at a map of North America you can see the shape of a turtle! How could they have possibly known?

Who did that fire mural in your restaurant?

I was lucky enough to get the ever so talented Samaqani Cocahq (Natalie Sappier) a Wolastoqey Multidisciplinary storyteller from Tobique First Nations, New Brunswick to create my huge 16'X9' mural.

She was able to create this gorgeous piece by blending my culture with the Wolastoqey culture capturing the abundance of nature perfectly.

You can connect with Samaqani by emailing thewaterspirit@hotmail.com
